ICAR-NOFRI Instigated 30-Day Training Program on Organic Farming For Newly Recruited Officers of Government of Sikkim
ICAR-National Organic Farming Research Institute (NOFRI), Tadong started 30-dayTraining Program on ‘Organic Farming’ for the 23 newly recruited Agriculture Development Officers (ADO), Horticulture Development Officers (HDO) and Watershed Development Officers (WDO), Govt. of Sikkim during on April 24 to May 24, 2019 in order to update them with latest organic production technologies. A total of 21 officers from all four districts of Sikkim are participating in the training program. The program is sponsored by ATMA, Govt. of Sikkim.
Smt. Dawa Lhamu Lama, Principal Director, Horticulture and Cash Crop Development Department, Govt. of Sikkim was the Chief Guest in the inaugural function on April 24, 2019. In her address, she appreciated the Joint Director and Scientists of ICAR-NOFRI for their sincere efforts in organizing the 30-day long training program for the newly recruited officers. She said that Sikkim state is dependent on ICAR for organic production technologies and this kind of training for officers shall help them to learn the available technologies before going in to the field. She also briefed about the journey of Organic farming in Sikkim and role of Horticulture and Cash Crop Development Department, Govt. of Sikkim in implementation of various programs. She also motivated the trainees to actively interact with the scientist of ICAR-NOFRI during the training program.
Mrs. Asha Lama, Director Agriculture, SAMETI and Nodal Officer Training, Govt. of Sikkim also participated as Guest of Honour. In her address, she appreciated ICAR-NOFRI efforts in Research and Development and rapid transfer of technologies through various training programs. She mentioned that there is big gap between production and supply of organic seeds and need to be given special emphasis during the training program.
Earlier, Dr. R.K. Avasthe, Joint Director, ICAR-NOFRI in his address highlighted the relevance of this training program for newly recruited officers. He mentioned that ICAR-NOFRI has developed many improved production technologies for different crops and most of them are reaching the farmers field. He emphasized that in Sikkim there is 25-55% yield gap and to bridge this gap there is need to identify right person for the transfer of right technologies. He also motivated the trainees to work with dedication and discipline for success in their career and achieving departmental goals.
Dr. Ashish Yadav, Senior Scientist (Horticulture) coordinated the program and welcomed all the dignitaries and briefed about the various talks and activities to be undertaken during 30-day training program. Dr. Raghavendra Singh, Senior Scientist (Agronomy) proposed the vote of thanks. Shri S. M. Kandwal (Sr. Technical Officer) moderated the program. Mrs. Rajeni Pradhan, Mr. Bandhan Chettri, Mr. Ezekeil Khawas and Mr. Topden Tshering Bhutia assisted actively in organizing the program.
